CAN’T WAIT FOR THIS SEASON TO BE OVER!!! I NEED MY SLEEP!!

Maybe some of you have already realized it, and I know that my friends on Facebook have probably come to this conclusion, but I’ve really gotten into these playoffs this year.  I would say that it’s become a sickness, an addiction.  They say the first step into getting over an addiction is to accept it.  Oh, I’ve accepted it.  I just want it to go away. The truth is that I’ve invested way too much time into this season to stop now.  And there is at most 6 more days before the season is over so I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.  But it has felt like an eternity.  And I want it to end already.

Back on Track, literally, but not really…

It had been more than two months since I ran. Let me clarify… I had gone for a run here and there, but I had not really RUN since the end of March. That’s when I had gone out for my last 6 mile run. Since then I had run no more than once a week and for no more than 4 miles. I had lost my focus, and frankly I had become stagnant (kind of like the Heat offense at the end of games).  I was too lazy to get up and get out.  It was easier to sit around and lounge.  Sure, there were contributing factors to my getting to this point: 1. I had a tooth extracted in April and was forbidden to run for at least 2 weeks and up to a month (I chose the month, more out of laziness than anything, though I used precaution as an excuse), 2. The NBA playoffs. Enough said. There were games every night and I couldn’t convince myself to run after the games were over. So, I did not run.

HEAT WIN! I’M EXHAUSTED… CAN’T SLEEP… CAN’T WRITE…

I never blame the refs when we lose a game, but I would have today.  This was the most ridiculously called game I think I’ve ever seen.  Fortunately I still won’t blame the refs for a loss because the Heat WON.  I wonder if the refs are going to be getting paid tonight? They obviously failed in what they were getting paid to do… Spo did a great job of not saying a word.  Saved himself some money AND the ire of the refs in future games… God forbid they actually would have it out for the Heat, right?

But even though I’ve been able to get a paragraph out, I am incapable of spitting out any more.  That game destroyed me.  On top of the fact that I annoyed the hell out of my wife by rewinding EVERY SINGLE BAD CALL to make sure I wasn’t imagining things… from the no call when Shawn “the Matrix” Marion landed on Lebron James when trying to block a shot, to a call on a double dribble when James had only dribbled a single (literally ONE DRIBBLE, TOTAL) since he picked up the ball after getting blocked, to the two ghost fouls on rebounds that put Dirk on the line allowing the Mavs to tie, to about 4 other ones. I think my wife was as exhausted with my rants as I was by the game itself.  But the Heat won. Now we HAVE to win game 3. No ifs and or buts. We NEED to win. For now, I must go rest, though I’m SO wired I’m not sure I’ll be able to go to sleep.

Take Me Out to the Empty Ballpark…

Today I’m going to be venturing out with 100 of my closest friends to see the least watched sporting event in all of the United States of America… a Florida Marlins home game. Thanks to us we will almost single-handedly double the actual attendance at the stadium! Looking forward to those foul balls coming my way!! Can’t wait to do “The Ripple”! (not enough people to do a “Wave”). And we can personally heckle the players from the opposing team (the Brewers in this case) because the fan to opposing player ratio is a very attractive 8:1.  We could form therapy groups with such favorable numbers! There’s nothing like going to a Marlins game!

GIMME ZERO!!

By popular demand (OK, I had one request, but none against, so I take that as you are looking forward to this) I will be blogging on my take on the ever popular fist bump.  For whatever reason (I really can’t think of one) I have been wondering about how and why we have evolved into bumping knuckles to say hello.  It seemingly came out of nowhere and now it seems that everyone is doing it.  So of course I am going to share my theory on how it became so popular… GERMS. UGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!

So, I promised myself I’d write today.  But who the hell wants to write after watching the train wreck that was the last 6 minutes of the Heat game.  Right after D-Wade hits the 3 to put them up by 15 my wife was talking about how we are demoralizing them.  I was quick to remind her about Dallas’ ability to come back on games like this.  She almost laughed at me.  I guess I’d been watching too much basketball because I definitely was not comfortable with this lead.  And I was right to feel that way, obviously.  I saw in the last week Dallas do it TWICE to OKC.  I also saw the Heat do it to Chicago.  It was bound to happen at least once in this series.  Unfortunately, it had to happen to us.

Distractions, Distractions Everywhere!!

Last time I was heard from, I was talking up how I’m going to start writing on a daily basis.  It looked promising for a while, and I thought that maybe I’d slowly pick up momentum.  That didn’t happen. May came and went and I nary wrote a word. Pathetic. But honestly, I wasn’t expecting how I’d react to what was before me.  An NBA playoff season that I would actually care about.  Yes, that’s right.  I’m blaming my lack of productivity on BASKETBALL. In case you didn’t notice, my last post was April 23rd.  At that point the Heat had just played and won their third playoff game against an overmatched Sixer team.  The next night they lost to this team, and my intrigue set in.  I had to watch them finish them off.  then I had to watch every other game to see who they’d play next and what they would have to do to defeat them too.  And I had to watch the West coast games to analyze all the potential opponents for the Heat should they get to the Finals. Aging Sucks

You’re only as old as you feel.  I stand by this assertion.  Anybody who knows me knows that I am a kid at heart. I like to kid around and laugh.  I like to do athletic activities. I love amusement parks and going on rides.  And I like to talk about meaningless stuff and turn everything into a joke. As my wife likes to say, she has 5 kids – the four she bore and me. The Year of the Yankee

The first week of baseball.  This is always a time that brings hope to a lot of people across the nation.  Everybody starts off with a clean slate.  There is still hope for every single team to do something special, to turn some heads, to beat the odds.  Sometimes these dreams materialize for teams that most people write off annually… a couple of years back it was the Rays, last year it was the Reds. Other times teams that are “due” just eventually bring more heartbreak to their hometowns (these can simply be read as “Chicago Cubs”). Within a week some posers are already out of the playoff picture, though their fans may hold on to hope anyway. For others, the entire year builds up to the potential for a championship. For one team in particular, this dream occurs year in, and year out.. they are ALWAYS contenders. Of course I am talking about the Yankees. Continue reading

READ MY F***ING BLOG!!

People who know me know that I don’t have a propensity to curse. That is, of course, unless I’m playing Balderdash, where all bets are off.  But that’s another story.  In general I try to to steer from the four letter words.  I rarely use them with my wife, and never in anger.  I NEVER use them with my kids… my own, OR my students.  And I don’t think my parents have EVER heard me use an inappropriate word. Sure around my friends I will let a few go here and there, but in general I am one of the more “clean” mouthed people I know. Continue reading
