Back to Work

The last of the challenges (potentially) that I’m going to have to face before I finish my workout plan begins tomorrow. I go back to work. I now have only 2 weeks left before I finish my cycle. 77 days have come and gone. I will be done in 13 days (maybe 14 because of that extra day of rest while I was away). But now I have to worry about actually going to bed at a decent time. That means I have to work out a little earlier. That’s tough. But I’ve gotten through everything else. Let’s see, what were these obstacles again?

1. Getting started… always the biggest obstacle.
2. Summer school… small distraction, but not too difficult to deal with.
3. The injury… slicing my toe and the possibility of stitches. THAT was a true obstacle.
4. A week alone with the kids while my wife was on a workshop… who thought I’d have the energy?
5. One week in Sarasota… who wants to workout while on vacation?
6. Back to school… let’s see how this plays out.

I’ll probably run into some other obstacle along the way, but with two weeks left it’s just time to suck it up and get through it. The finish line is definitely visible.
One other thing I must worry about is how I eat for these last two weeks. I have gotten extremely careless these last few days eating a lot of food and unhealthy food. If I’m not careful I’ll end up undoing all the work I’ve already done. Work may actually be a blessing in this particular case. We’ll see.
I’m planning on continuing this past the two weeks. I have a cruise that I’m going on in 3 1/2 weeks. I need to be in optimal shape for that, so I will make the effort to push myself a little extra. THEN I will face the real test. Maintenance. Well, I’ll get there soon enough.

A friend of mine just asked me if I’d be interested in running a marathon in March. It’s definitely something I want to do, and I think I’m getting to where I’m sure I could do it. Doing this P90X reminds me of what someone once said. Most people running a marathon usually hit a wall right around mile 17 (of 26). Their body just gives out. Then it becomes mind over body. I think I did something similar with P90X. Mile 17 was a couple of weeks ago but I got through it, now I just have to cruise to the finish. And then I have to walk it off and go to the next challenge. March… Marathon (or maybe half marathon… that may be a good place to start).

Hey how about this. Half marathon next year… marathon the year after that… then triathlon sprint… then triathlon… then IRONMAN triathlon! What do you think. Well, I could only do one at a time, so I’ll start with the first. But it’s definitely a series I can strive for. Much like P90X was and now I’m on the verge of completing it.
