Three Beatle Weeks

Friday, June 20th, 2008

Yes, if I were a Beatle I’d have finished three weeks of my “Eight Days a week” workouts. I’m no Beatle, though, so I’ll settle for saying that 24 days are through. 66 more days and this will be done. And I should be, according to Tony Horton, King of P90X, in the best shape of my life. Three weeks in, and I tell you, I’m having my doubts. I’m not saying I’m not going to be in great shape. I feel it already. I just remember how good a shape I was in when I finished Body for Life 7 years ago. (Thank you Bill Phillips.) There’s plenty of time though. And I must say I haven’t gotten into round two, which from what I understand is when I really will start noticing the difference. I did Kenpo today. FUN. Yesterday for the first time I did Core Synergistics. Remember how I said yesterday I was afraid of what this workout would do to me. Next time I won’t think too much about what’s coming and I should just do it. I thought it was a great workout. It was challenging but manageable. I’m looking forward to doing it again in two days. Tomorrow is simply a stretch day. Let’s see how that goes. With all that I’ve done, I haven’t managed to lose a pound in over a week. And I know I addressed that yesterday, but I do want to get a tad bit leaner. (more…)

Those Were the Days

Last Monday and two weeks ago Thursday…

The End

(This one’s a real cliffhanger, eh?)

A Fourth of the Way There

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

Today is day 23 on my trek.  That means I am more than a fourth of the way to 90 days.  I haven’t actually done my exercises yet, though, so I guess I’ve stil done only 22 days, which is not quite 1/4 of 90 days. So, why don’t I just split the difference and call it 22.5 days which would then be exactly one-fourth of the 90 days!  NICE!  Now, I only have 3/4 of the way to go.  Today I looked in the mirror carefully and I noticed that my body is already changing.  I was warned to not look at the scale too much because I should be expecting to gain muscle and transfer weight versus lose it, and today i could see how.  My waist is definitely slimmer though my weight my not say so.

Today I do my first new routine as I mentioned a couple of days ago.  Core synergistics it’s called.  I figured since this is recovery week that it wouldn’t be too demanding.  So, I read ahead to give myself of what kind of exercises I would be doing.  It no look like fun… in fact it’s probably going to be the toughest workout yet.  I wish now that I hadn’t read ahead because I am now dreading turning on my DVD player.  But at least I am 25% done, so hopefully that will push me through the rest of today.  And tomorrow is Kenpo, and then stretching so I got a couple of good days to follow this up. Equal Value

Chapter 63

Equal Value

Bobby had a real problem keeping quiet in class.  Day after day Mr. Simmons had to ask him to be quiet.  He’d ask him politely.  He’d scream at him.  He’d threaten to call home.  He’d threaten him with detention.  Nothing he did would dissuade the young boy.

One day Bobby entered class and did not stop speaking for more than 15 minutes.  After asking him to shut his mouth a few more times Mr. Simmons decided to do something extreme.

“Bobby, if you will not be quiet, then I’ll have to give you an assignment.  Something that will make you think twice about speaking in my class.  You are to write a 10,000 word paper on how you are going to be quiet.  It is due tomorrow and it is worth 3 test grades.  Failure to turn it in means that you will fail the quarter, the semester, the year!!!”

Ten thousand words?  Mr. Simmons must be crazy, thought Bobby.  He stayed quiet while Mr. Simmons taughts for a few minutes, then his demeanor changed and he went back to normal.  Mr. Simmons frowned towards Bobby.  “All I know is that your assignment better be done by tomorrow,” sneered Mr. Simmons.  Bobby just smiled on him and went about his business until the end of class.  When the school day finished, Bobby headed home to do his assignment.  He found what he needed and got to work.  Fifteen minutes later, he was done.  “I hope this will do.”

The next day Bobby arrived in Mr. Simmons class and started talking as usual.  Mr. Simmons looked to Bobby and asked, “Do you have something for me, son?”  “I sure do,” replied Bobby, and he took out a folder and handed it to Mr. Simmons.

Mr. Simmons opened the folder and saw the cover page titled, “How I Can Keep Quiet”.  He looked inside ready to strt skimming the essay and was astonished to find a number of photos of Bobby in different poses.  In one photo he had his mouth stuffed with food.  In a second one, he had his head dunked under water.  In a third he had duct tape on his mouth.  Mr. Simmons kept turning pages until he realized that Bobby didn’t write a single word.  In fact, he had only pasted, and carelessly at that, ten pictures in the packet he turned in.

“What is this Bobby?  I said I wanted 10,000 words, and you didn’t write a single one!  Is this some sort of a joke?”

“No sir,” said Bobby, “I just gave you something of equal value, that’s all.”

Mr Simmons looked at him incredulously, “Equal Value?!?!?”

“Yes sir,” said Bobby, and then he began to philosophize.  “Remember how in math class you told us that ten $10 bills is of equal value to a $100 bill and to a $100 check because 10 times $10 is $100?”  Mr. Simmons nodded, not quite sure where Bobby was going with this. ”Well, I gave you ten pictures showing you how I can be quiet, and you know, ’A picture’s worth 1000 words!’  Do the math, Mr. Simmons!”

Chapter 62

The Dangers of Thinking

Somebody ticked Larry off.  He decided he was going to give them a piece of his mind.  Unfortunately he gave them the wrong piece.  Now he thinks his name is Gerard.

Day 21

Monday, June 16th, 2008

Yes, It’s been three weeks already. Yesterday I completed my third round of workouts. Today is my rest day, but I am choosing to stretch. I’m also going to do an ab workout because the other day I couldn’t get one in because I had a date looming (not in a bad way, I just couldn’t think of another word at the moment) with my wife.  I do have my priorities.  Tomorrow I sart recovery week number 1.  I take a week off from the weights and the pullups and pushups for a week to give my body a chance to get ready for round two.  Then again, it’s not going to be too much easier.  I still have to do two days of yoga, one of plyo, and one of Kenpo (that one is fine with me).  I also have to do two days of core synergistics.  This will be the first new routine I do since week 1, so it should be interesting.  I think I have to do this one on Wednesday.  Let’s see how it goes.  Throw in two days of stretching and I should be ready for Round 2, and three weeks of new workout programs.  I’m psyched!  Let’s get busy, baby!

Summer School Dismissal

Friday, June 13th, 2008

Very few things makes me feel as alive

Than when the summer school bell rings at 2:45

On Friday afternoon with the weekend ahead

Where I won’t have to stare at these lazy lugheads

This happens but thrice once the summer begins

When I obviously do penance for all of my sins

By babysitting those boys who failed certain classes

Because sometimes their brains were as slow as molasses

Two more Fridays and I’ll have to see them no more

And then I’ll rest for 6 weeks when I walk out the door

That is FO SHORE!

Ghost Sheep

CHAPTER 61

GHOST SHEEP

The young shephard tried keeping up with his mentor, listening intently as they walked.

“Keeping the wolves away will be difficult , but if you do all I’ve taught you the sheep will be safe.  We’ll stop here.”

“Why are we stopping here, Master?” asked the young boy.

“That’s sacred ground over there,” replied the elder shephard.

“Sacred? Are people buried there?” continued the boy.

“Not people… sheep.  I brought you this far so that you can see the result of negligence.  DEAD SHEEP!”

The boy looked puzzled.  “That land is sacred because sheep are buried there.  You’re kidding, right?” (more…)

People Actually Visit My Site!

Friday, June 13th, 2008

OK, so while browsing a friend of mine’s blogspace I saw that she had this thing called ClustrMaps with a bunch of dots on it. I clicked on it and it showed not only how many people had visited her site but more or less where they visited from. People had visited her site from all the populated continents! How cool was that? That got me thinking. Does anyone actually visit my site?  So I did what any normal person would do in that situation.  I downloaded ClustrMaps to find out.  What stunk is I had to wait a whole day before I actually knew  the truth.

Well, we know the truth.  People visit my site!  Woohoo.  The truth is that they may not be actual people based on the comments I receive (bed, sheets, sleep, snore, etc.  I don’t get the point of such stupid comments… obviously some sort of advertisement.  For what, who knows?), but it’s a visit nonetheless I guess.  I got two hits in the last 24 hours.  One appears to be from Northern Florida/Southern Georgia.  The other one, and this is pretty neat, appears to be from Syria, or one of its bordering countries.  Why I’d get a visitor from there?  Who knows?  Maybe they misspelled something and wound up at my site. Regardless, I got a hit from the Middle East.  Two continents down… four to go.  Let’s see who else visits.

By the way, if you visit, leave a comment!  (Not gibberish, and nothing vulgar… this is a family site, OK?)  I’ll put something else in here shortly.  TTFN
