FREEDOM OF SPEECH MEANS GOD TOO

This poem was inspired by one of those chain letters that we are supposed to continually send to ten people so as to not break a chain of good luck, while spreading a good message. I refuse to send e-mails that say that if I don’t forward them, then I am ashamed of God. My faith is not based on the 50 e-mails I get a week that I am supposed to forward, that in doing so will fill up somebody’s mailbox in a way I don’t like myself. I don’t send them because “I do unto others as I’d like them to do unto me”.
On the flip side, this seems to be the only way some people can get God into schools and the workplace, so for that I applaud. I will do it a little differently though, and below is my medium. PRAISE GOD AND THE LIBERTIES HE HAS GIVEN US!

FREEDOM OF SPEECH MEANS GOD TOO
I really don’t think that I owe you an apology
If you happen to disgaree with my ideology
You shouldn’t be offended with what I believe is true
Because my beliefs are about me and are not about you
So please don’t try to dictate what it is that I can say
We were founded by people who had intended to pray
To deny me that right is to go back into the past
And to deny all the liberties that we’d all hope would last
It was faith that brought us here to this wonderful land
That’s why I can’t see why you don’t understand
That we all have a right to express what we feel
And so this is why I must make this appeal
If you don’t believe in the same God that I do
You don’t have to pray to Him, but you don’t have to sue
For the right to take away my freedom of speech
In the place where our kids learn the values we teach
This nation was created as one nation under God
By throwing Him out we become one giant fraud
When an institution forgets the ideals on which it stands
Then it no longer can expect the respect it demands
So to me it does not seem to be so complicated
To understand why in this world this country is so hated
We were the country that invited the underprivileged and needy
And now we’re a godless nation, all stuck up and greedy
Maybe if we turn back to what we, as a country, believed
We can restore to the world they way we once were perceived
And to the small little group who claims God unconstitutional
It’s our love for God that let’s your voice be deemed rational
Don’t you see the only reason you even have a say
Is that God loving people fought for the freedoms we have today
So please don’t shut us up, don’t imply it’s not our right
When we express what we feel beyond the silence of the night
Our faith is not something we should keep inside or hide
We’ll grow more if we share it and don’t throw it to the side
Differing views could be a good thing if we have an open heart
So please open up your own before this nation falls apart
