3 Questions
The climb was almost complete.
Christine had been climbing now for three weeks to reach the summit. She knew what she would find there. THE GREAT SAGE.
Legend had it that if you’d find him, he could answer all your questions, his wisdom was so great. Few dared to risk the perils one must face to reach him. The dense forests, the steep cliffs, the volcanic valleys… they all seemed too much for some. Was wisdom so important? It was to Christine. And she was within reach of her goal.
She pulled herself up over one last edge of a mountainside and she saw the small hut. It had to be his! She figured that he’d be kind enough to welcome anyone who had gone to such great lengths to find him, so she went straight to the door. Christine knocked.
In an instant the door opened and a short man, about 5 feet, 3 inches in stature with graying hair and ashy skin stood there. He seemed meek, but his eyes glowed bright with what Christine assumed was the gleam of being fully enlightened.
“I am looking for the great sage,” began Christine.
The old man replied, “I am he.”
Christine felt a tingle go up her spine, she was so excited. “I have so many questions to ask!”
The sage replied, “I shall answer three, no more. I can lead you to the path you must take, but I can not walk it for you. Ask what you must and let my answers open your mind to the possibilities.”
By this point, Christine couldn’t contain herself, and she blurted out, “So you’re really the sage, huh?
“I am.”
“Oh my God, how cool is that?!?”
“Not as thrilling as you may think.”
“And I can ask you anything I want?”
“You just did,” and the sage turned to walk back in the hut.
“What are you doing? Where are you going?” asked Christine as the door began to close.
“Trying to trick me into answering extra questions are you? Well, it won’t work! Nobody’s ever satisfied with the answers I provide!”
The door shut.
Christine had been led to her path.
