POEM FOR SALEÂ
A poem for sale, a poemÂ
A few lines that rhyme.Â
Each one I wrote is pricelessÂ
I’ll give you this one for a dime.Â
I pour out my heart into my workÂ
Through my fingers the words trickle.Â
If a dime is too muchÂ
You could have it for a nickel.Â
I have spent so much energyÂ
And it’s taken time aplenty.Â
Hey if you want it that badÂ
I can give it to you for a penny.Â
You can’t measure the inspirationÂ
That’s helped this poem come to be.Â
I don’t want to keep it from youÂ
Please take it for no fee.Â
I knew you really wanted itÂ
Be sure to enjoy every lineÂ
If someone asks where it came fromÂ
Let them know that it was mine.Â
Hey don’t put away chewed gumÂ
On that poem on which I laboredÂ
I don’t care if it’s all staleÂ
And has lost of all its flavor.Â
Well good riddance I say to youÂ
What you did was out of order.Â
Here’s another copy of my poemÂ
I’m going to try to sell it for a quarter.Â
